Bonne Friesen ~ Dances With Words

Gloriously Imperfect

November1

So, it is evident that this is truly going to be an awful first draft.  “Gloriously imperfect” as the Nanowrimo leadership would have it.  Even so, it is such a proactive thing to be doing I can’t help but feel good about it.  I’m really going to know which way I want to try writing my next novel.  It could take a few before I really know what works, and that’s okay.

I’m finding great peace in taking the long view of this learning to write process, the way Randy Ingermanson describes it like four years worth of university.  I intend to master my craft, and I can put in the time and effort to make it happen.  Money too, incidentally, but not so much compared to student loans.  Today Amazon.ca loves me because I bought several of the highest recommended books on learning to write.  Ingermanson recommends reading such a book every month or two, while writing 5 hours a week for the Freshman year.  I’m currently writing a lot more than that, but I realise I need to be devouring these books as well so the quality of my output increases.  That will start next month.

Sorry if I’m not exactly lucid.  First day and all that ~ feeling pretty warped and I need to get some rest.  I actually have writing class tomorrow, plus an author reading, plus a workshop with this author, and two pieces to hand in.  One is ready, the other (previously mentioned) was not worth my time and effort.  Plus I can’t make anything print right now.  Yeah, I’m convinced.

N’night
