Well I’ve come about 13 000 words into revising my novel now.  I have to say I’m really enjoying the results, although it is a struggle.  What has been worked on is still rough around the edges, but is much more engaging.  It amazes me how many things have come together through it, too.  Connections I hadn’t suspected suddenly materialise and pull random things together in a way that makes so much sense.  So much of this writing process is subconcious.  I hope I find a way of tapping into the gold I bury for myself without it taking so long and so many revisions.  Perhaps the course that will be my New Year’s project, “Learning to Think Sideways”, will shed some light there.

I’m finally over a brutal cold, and the cold dread that assailed me at the thought of taking on my novel again.  I’ve had to slightly alter my cunning plan to focusing on revisions now, and leave excessive editing for later.  That’s not to say that editing isn’t happening.  A lot of things (adjectives, narrative summary) are being cut, more immediate scenes are being added.  And I’ve spent upwards of 10 minutes fussing with one sentence, which is a real Nano-no-no.

I’d hoped to add another 30 000 words to my story to make it of more saleable length, but right now it looks as though I may finish Nano with 50 000 words again, but at least they will be better words!
